As we all know there are many people still today who are being injured by drunk driving even though we’re doing our best to stop it. We will never catch every single person who has been drinking, so there will always be a chance for a crash. Here at Arvada High School we should honestly do more. We should have posters of accidents and what really does happen when you get in a crash. I have never heard one teacher really get into this topic. So we should start talking about it maybe have some group meetings with all the students. I even think they should choose out 20 students and fake an accident were their friends are killed in a drunk driving incident. They did this at another high school. It really made those kids think about how sad it is to lose someone close. They probably won’t ever even think about driving while under the influence again. But thats not all we should be doing, We should start having DUI commercials and show pictures of people after their crashes. It might be cruel but it will touch some people and make a big difference. If everyone is against drunk driving why isn’t anybody doing things out of their way to stop it? Innocent people every single day are having their lives taken because someone is intoxicated! How is that fair? We really need to buckle down and do what we need to, to get into people’s heads about how serious this really is. Parents should always be discussing about safe driving and give consequences if they are caught driving intoxicated. The driving schools should start handing out some packets with a bunch of different information about the topic. Maybe they should even add some questions about what to do in certain situations in the test you have to take. They should be informing all the new drivers about how serious drunk driving can really be! It’s not a game. It’s a life or death situation. No one should be kidding around. In public places like gas stations they should have pictures and signs of being against drunk driving. Everyone goes to gas stations that would be a great idea! But most of all I think the most important thing we should be doing is informing all the students. If we learn at younger ages we will be more aware when we’re older. We need to be looking out for every person in America and make sure we all have a fair opportunity to be safe while on the road. Driving sober is the only way, it’s to dangerous if not.

Everyone has an issue with drunk driving no matter if they say it or not. We all need to take control and stick together to stop this awful cause of a lot of deaths here in America. There are a bunch of organizations to help stop this issue. One is called M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). The mothers are one out of many who are seriously effected by drunk driving. Everyday someone dies from an alcohol-related accident. So they decided to take action. One thing they believe should stop is under aged drinking, because when young people drink they tend to drive under the influence of alcohol, ride with a drinking driver, get into fights, drop out of school,  commit a violent crime,  be a victim of a violent crime, commit suicide or become alcohol dependent. They also even believe convicted DUI offenders should have an interlock devise put into their cars so they can no longer drive under the influence. To help stop drinking a lot of people go to alcohol treatment classes or even rehab. Many people everyday enter a rehab center and come out clean. But some go in with no hope to quit and when they get out they head right to the liquor stores! It’s so sad to see people addicted to alcohol but they have a disease and really need help. Even if they don’t say it out loud, inside they are screaming in pain. Another really successful organization many people have heard about is Intervention. It’s a television show where you can watch other people with their addictions and how their families bring them to a room and tell them about how they feel. Then, they give them the choice to go to jail for some time, or a rehab center. A lot of the time people are really angry with their families and say jail. They think everyone’s out to get them but really they love them to death and don’t want to see them throw their lives away! Intervention and other organizations are specifically made for alcoholics and/or other drug addictions. So if you have a family member or a close friend who needs help with their addiction (maybe not just alcohol) do the right thing and get some help for them.

When you get stopped by a policeman while driving under the influence many things can happen. But, I can guarantee you will get punished and face what is coming to you. Drinking while under the influence is one of the most serious and illegal things to do. No one wants to put up with it and we shouldn’t have to! People get pulled over all the time and hopefully they learn their lesson. When you get pulled over, the policeman will probably ask if  you’ve had anything to drink tonight. No matter what you say most guaranteed their going to make you take a breath-scan. It’s the quickest way to find out what the drivers BAC is. If the number is over the legal limit of 0.08 you may have your license suspended or revoked anywhere from a week to years. They can also require you to have a special marked license or to have an “interlock device”  that makes sure your car doesn’t start unless you pass the breath-scan. They can also decide if your car gets impounded, confiscated or maybe sold. I just have to say there is no easy way out of it.  But this is not all that could happen, you can possibly face some fines, jail time, cost of insurance increased, court costs and other penalties that vary from state to state. The law is even harder for under aged drinking (under 21). If you have been tested and found to be over the legal limit of 0.08 you will be arrested and you license Will be taken away for some time. Everyone needs to realize the danger drunk drivers are putting on everyone on the street and even themselves. Every two minutes someone gets an injury from a drunk driver! The police need to take control and really pay attention for all the drunk drivers. No one needs to have their life on the line because someone wants to have a little fun. It’s not fair and they need to be stopped. Everyone around the world should care about this issue. What if their kid or someone close to them gets hit and is really hurt, will they care then? It’s not even about if no one gets hurt that time its the fact everyone has a very high chance of getting in an accident while driving when there is drunk drivers. I just ask why even go through all that trouble when you can just stay where your at or not drink at all. Drunk drivers will be stopped!!

Drinking and Driving (driving while under the influence) is a very serious and dangerous position to put you and/or other people in. In a matter of seconds you can lose your or another’s life because you weren’t paying attention. In 2003, 17,013 people died from alcohol-related crashes. Each year, alcohol-related crashes in the United States cost about $51 billion. Someone who is drinking and driving gets in a accident about every 31 minutes!! People all over the world are having to suffer because drunk people decide it’s okay to put some one’s life in the palm of their hands. Anyone can be responsible enough to have the drinks, and get to parties on their own. But then no one is responsible enough to take friends home or even get home on their own after they have been drinking. Everyone needs to know the danger of driving while under the influence! It’s not a joke. You’re taking someone’s life away from them. I know if someone really close to me passed away because someone made a stupid decision, I would never forgive them! When teens go to parties or even when adults go to bars and have a few drinks, they don’t think about how they were getting home, how much their going to drink or anything. The last thing on there mind was ”I might get in a crash because I’ll be too drunk to drive”. No one wants to admit they’re too drunk to drive. You’ll hear them saying things to their friends like, “On homies I’m cool to drive, for real don’t worry. Trust me.” You know in your mind their not fine. It’s not safe. But instead of being a good friend and looking out for them, you let them drive. Then you come to find out they didn’t make it home that night because they got in some kind of accident. Their parents are calling to see if you’ve seen their kid and you have nothing to say. What would you say to them? How will you feel at that moment because you know you could have stopped it from happening!? What will you do if you’re at a party and everyone is drinking? How would you get home? Most of the time people ask their drunk friends to drive them or they drive home alone. I would give the advice to call a friend or someone close to you. Tell them your situation and ask for them to pick you up. Everyone has been in this situation at least once so they will understand. If you honestly can’t get a ride, call your parents. You know they will be upset with you but think about it, will they be angry
you didn’t tell them and got in a accident or waited for them to pick you and discuss it in the morning. If People just stopped to think for one minute about there actions and what could happen, many Americans today would be safer and not have as high as a  chance to get in a accident with a drunk driver. It’s not fair to the families who lose members or even get hurt themselves because they were drinking or got hit by a drunk driver. This is one of the most common causes of deaths and all serious injuries.  We need to think about the consequences and who we are affecting while driving under the influence. Do the right thing and do what you can to prevent drunk driving!!!
